Educational Fraudsters
(Below is a letter from a reader in the U.K.:are things much better here in Oz?- D.H-J)
Sir - I was firstly shocked, then amused and finally found myself nodding heartily in agreement with Barbara Amiel's piece today, spot on [Murder is too kind for the educational fraudsters, 30 September 2002].
That our education system is falling to pieces is clear. That it is riven by dissembling educationalists and ministers is even clearer. The tragedy is that the pain is felt by the students, the very people whose life chances are based on the results of examinations.
I am disgusted and apalled by this government's mis-handling of the education system. Endless tinkering has reduced it to a shadow of its former self. The esteem in which British qualifications were once held internationally has been debased. Yet again, the payments and the pain are levied on future generations for the sake of short term expediency. Disgusting. Simonette Lazarin
